THE BIG CHILL PRESENTS TEXAS HOLD ‘EM!!
HOUSE RULES
Last Update May 2008
Big Chill Hold ‘Em Executive Committee:
Owner / General Manager: Gina Parks
Executive Director: Lance Bailey (LB)
Tournament Director: Dayton Waters
Assistant Director / Pit Boss: Mark Finkbeiner (Fink)
1. IT’S FREE POKER, HAVE FUN!!! Any disputes that cannot be rectified by the
current dealer will be handled by the Tournament Director. The Tournament
Director or his representative has final authority over disputes during game play. If a
player is not satisfied with the decision, he or she may address the Executive
Committee after game play. Play will not be stopped to appeal a decision to the
Executive Committee.
2. Seating. The Tournament Director or his representative will determine seating
arrangement for game play. Seating will occur on a first-come first-served basis. The
combining of tables and movement of players is done at the discretion of the
Tournament Staff. An effort will be made to insure no more than a one player
difference between table strengths.
3. One player per hand. Players may reveal their hands to anyone they choose,
however, they may not solicit or receive advice regarding play of the hand from
anyone, whether in the game or not. Revealing one’s hand during play does not
constitute a fold, but if one player in the hand sees another’s cards, all players must
be allowed to see them. Play may continue with the exposed cards.
4. Dealer responsibilities rotate clockwise around the table during game play. It is
the responsibility of each player to be familiar with these rules and enforce them
while dealing. It is likewise the responsibility of each player to observe these rules
and assist in their enforcement.
5. All standard poker etiquette applies:
a. No string betting. State your intent, (Call, Raise, All-in, Fold, etc.), and
move your chips forward in one motion. Players should state the amount they
intend to raise before moving chips to reduce confusion. PLAYERS WILL BE
HELD TO THEIR STATED INTENT! You cannot say “Fold,” then change your
mind. If you say “All-in,” all of your chips are at risk. The only exception to this is if
a player states an illegal move such as a raise of an improper amount. Do not say, “I
call, no, I raise.” You will only be allowed to call the previous bet.
b. Do not splash the pot. Throwing chips into the pot is bad form and creates
opportunity for confusion. State your bet, move that amount of chips forward and let
the dealer collect the bets before moving to the next play.
c. Always protect your cards. Use a card protector or chip. The only non-
issue chip allowed at the table will be a card protector and must be of different
design than those issued. If a hand is mucked into your unprotected hand, the
dealer can kill both hands.
d. Keep your cards on the table at all times. NEVER allow your cards to drop
below table level.
e. It is bad form to discuss what is in your hand or what you folded while
active cards are in play.
f. Abusive language to other players will not be tolerated.
6. RAISE LIMITS. There is no maximum amount of raises in a given round of
betting. Obviously, the last raiser cannot raise his own raise if all others have
subsequently called. However, if he has been re-raised, an exchange of re-raises may
occur until player(s) are all-in. There is NO THREE RAISE LIMIT.
7. STANDARD BETTING. The minimum bet or raise is the amount of the big
blind (if it is the initial bet in the current round of betting) or the amount of the last
bet if betting has already occurred. Example: Player A calls the BB for 50. Player
B announces, “Raise.” Player B must raise to a minimum of 100 (50 to call the BB
and a raise of at least that amount). Player C announces, “Re-raise.” He must bet at
least 200 (100 to call the BB and 50 raise from Player B and a raise of at least the
cumulative amount), however, he may raise to any amount over the minimum (205,
210, 220, etc.).
8. SIDE POTS. It is the dealer’s responsibility to ensure that side pots are properly
constructed and the winnings eligible to each player are made clear. Some players
are better at this than others, so table-wide cooperation is paramount.
9. ALL-IN. When betting is concluded because one or more players are all-in, ALL
players in the hand must immediately turn their cards face-up before subsequent
board cards are played.
10. FOLDING. Any player who places his cards inside the “muck/bet line” is
folded. Cards may not be retrieved from the muck pile and returned to active play.
Any player who declares, “Fold,” is folded. Players not present for their turn are
considered to be sitting out and are immediately folded.
11. SIT-OUTS. A player may opt to sit-out a maximum of 5 hands during
tournament play. Players sitting out will be dealt in and folded when their turn
arrives. Sit-outs may occur for bathroom trips, private conversation, phone calls, etc.
If a player exceeds 5 sit-outs, his chips will be removed from the table.
12. LATE ARRIVALS. Individuals who have made previous arrangements to
arrive late will be allowed to do so at the discretion of the Tournament Staff. That
person’s seat will be held, he will be “blinded in” and folded until he arrives. If a
reasonable time has passed and that player has not arrived, his chips will be pulled
from play. No late arrivals will be accommodated if others are waiting for an
available seat. The first player on the waiting list will be seated at the beginning of the
tournament. Missed hands by late arrivals will not be considered sit-outs.
13. MISDEALS. In the event of an inadvertent exposed card while dealing, the
player to whom the card was intended may immediately decide to keep that card or
reject it. Exposed cards to either seat in the blinds constitutes an immediate
misdeal. All others must decide prior to receiving the next card. Everyone at the
table should be made aware of the face value of the exposed card. If the card is
kept, play continues normally. If the card is rejected, the deal continues and the
player slighted receives the last card of the deal. The exposed card becomes the
first burn card. If a second card is exposed during the dealing of the same hand, the
ENTIRE hand is a misdeal. Cards are to be shuffled, cut and re-dealt by the same
dealer. If a misdeal occurs once betting has commenced, any player actively in the
hand or at the table can declare a misdeal. If it cannot be summarily corrected, all
players will have all invested chips returned them and the hand will be dealt from
the beginning as if it never occurred.
14. COLOR-UPS. Tournament Staff will “color-up” players chips as necessary
throughout the tournament. The “up” in “color-up” means player’s chips will be
rounded up to the next denomination currently in play. The Staffer will count the
player’s chips in front of him and tell him the amount he is removing. It is the
player’s responsibility to know how many chips he has at all times. The player may
always ask for a recount prior to coloring up. Color-ups should not be made from a
pot while the hand is still in play. Example: $5 chips are being removed from play
and you have a total of three ($15). The Staffer will take those three and bring you
one $25 chip, the next denomination in play.
15. OBSERVERS. Misdeals cannot be declared by observers. Observers should
maintain a reasonable clearance around the table and not impede tournament staff
from conducting their duties.
16. REMOVAL FROM PLAY. The staff retains the right to remove any disruptive
player from the game at any time. Complaints should be made to one of the
Tournament Directors regarding another player’s disruptive behavior. Inability to
perform dealer or basic player responsibilities due to drunkenness can result in
termination from play.
17. CHEATING. Any player who suspects another of cheating should alert the
Tournament Director. Any player caught cheating will be immediately removed
from the game and banned from future participation.
18. MONTHLY CHAMPIONSHIPS. The monthly “final table” or championship
game will be made up of the top 25% of the monthly field of players, rounded to the
next higher even number (if that number is more than 10). If a qualifying player
does not attend the championship game, the next qualifying player on the list who is
present will be afforded the seat.
19. PRIZES. Prizes are determined by the Executive Committee with final
approval authority by Gina Parks.
20. RECORDS. Records are kept on file for every tournament played and will be
maintained for no less than 3 years.
21. CATCH ALL. Any issue not covered above will be decided on the spot by the
tournament staff with input from the Executive Committee as needed. These rules
will be expanded and updated as necessary. The Tournament Director welcomes
any input to improve the Big Chill Hold ‘Em Tournament.
Have Fun and Shuffle Up and Deal!!
